Over two hundred men and women gathered in Little Armenia on Sunday, January 30, 2010, for a march to end violence against women, organized by the United Human Rights Council (UHRC) of the Armenian Youth Federation (AYF). Activists marched in memory of Zaruhi Petrosyan, a twenty year old mother who was brutally murdered by her husband and mother-in-law in October and to demand the just prosecution of all responsible parties.
We present a snapshot of the Free Berivan! protest through pictures and video from the new Haytoug blog. Armenian and Kurdish youth surrounded the Turkish Consulate in Los Angeles on March 24, protesting to expose the plight of a 15 year old Kurdish girl jailed in Turkey on trumped-up charges of "terrorism."
UHRC held a documentary screening, featuring Invisible Children--a nationwide organization dedicated to stopping the atrocities against innocent children taking place in Uganda. The film chronicled the efforts of young activists as they sought to help end the abduction and forced militarization of children in Uganda.
